Jeff NewtonWhen and why did you start training for fighting? I enjoyed success in point karate in the early ‘90s and after accomplishing my goal of being ranked as on of the top fighters in the country, I stopped fighting in 1994 and started spending more time between Hawaii to surf and Lake Tahoe to rock climb and snow board. 7 years later in 2001, a friend enlightened me to the industry’s progress and informed me of a show I could possibly get in. It sounded like a fun new adventure so I joined Todd Medina’s fight school and after less than 3 months of training I had my first match against Amir Rahnavarty. Even though I lost a questionable decision, I had a great time and knew with proper training I could make it to the UFC.
What ranks and titles have you held? 1992 #1 ranked Lt Heavyweight NASKA (North American Sport Karate Association). Numerous national and international wins in sport karate
Do you have any heroes? Lance Armstrong, Laird Hamilton and anyone who ignores the odds or doubts of others and chases their dreams with full force.
