Rick StoryTRAINING: I have team training during the day, where I do conditioning and game plan drills, and in the evenings I do technique, then spar or grapple depending on the day of the week. Hard sparring on Saturdays.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started getting involved with MMA in the offseason of my sophomore year 2004 in collegiate wrestling just to keep myself busy but didn't take it seriously. Had an opportunity to do an amateur fight; won it; loved performing in front of crowds; and wanted to do more. After graduating from Southern Oregon University in June of 2007 I got an opportunity to train at Braveheart Fight Club out of Vancouver and to become a professional fighter so I jumped all over it. Started training professionally in September 2007 with only wrestling skills. What ranks and titles have you held? I was a runner up in the 2006 NAIA National Wrestling Championships at 184lbs. For Southern Oregon University. Do you have any heroes? My team, my friends and family that will do anything for me. What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? I better not screw this up! This opportunity means everything to me. I gave up everything to fight, things such as my credit, my career as an Officer in the National Guard and my plans to teach and coach my younger brothers in wrestling. This is where all of my team’s and my hard work pays off. I get my opportunity to show Dana White and the world who I am and what Braveheart Fight Club is all about! We are undiscovered talent that now will hopefully be recognized. I am going to do everything in my ability to turn heads and drop jaws. I am very, very excited for this chance and will not let anyone down. Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Southern Oregon University/ Major: Health Education Minor: Military Science What was your job before you started fighting? I was and still am currently in the National Guard but as soon as I graduated from College I started training full time to fight. Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? 5-0 as an amateur fighter Specific accomplishments in pro competition? Elite Warriors Championship Welterweight Champion Ranks in any martial arts styles: Hold no ranks, just beat up a lot of high ranks Favorite grappling technique: Kimura armlock Favorite Striking technique: Hook followed by a cross
